Medical Uses for a Catheter Bag
Individuals suffering from incontinence are often started on a medical catheter with bag. A catheter bag is where the collected specimen is held and it is often either attached to the client with a strap, attached to their bed or their wheelchair. Several different medical conditions can call for the use of an internal catheter or other medical incontinence equipment. The two most common causes for the use of a catheter are incontinence and surgery, but other conditions that affect mobility are also times when patients will use a catheter.
Incontinence
The leaking of urine from the bladder is called incontinence. Normal functioning of the bladder allows us to decide if we are ready to relieve ourselves or not. But for patients suffering from incontinence, they are unable to control the pelvic muscles correctly to control incontinence. A catheter and catheter bag are used in extreme cases where the patient is reporting significant continued issues with incontinence.
