When you have diabetes and need to inject insulin, you need to use insulin syringes. Insulin syringes are made up of several parts. The tube, also called the barrel, is where the liquid is stored for injection. The tube typically has calibrations to indicate the amount of insulin to put inside. The syringe also has a plunger, which is the part that forces the liquid out. The needle is located at the end of the barrel and is hollow. There are different sizes and types of syringes to choose from.
Before choosing insulin syringes you need to know the amount of insulin you’ll be injecting. Syringes are graduated and measure liquid in either milliliters (ml) or cubic centimeters (cc). Insulin is measured in units. You must use the correct matching type syringe as the units you are injecting. For example, you must use a U100 syringe to inject 100 units of insulin.
