Steps To Connect A Catheter To Bedside Drainage Bags
If you are faced with connecting your own bedside drainage bags, be sure to wash your hands both before and after the procedure in order to eliminate any germs that may have accumulated. Clean the catheter thoroughly with an alcohol swab. The connection on the drainage tube should be cleaned thoroughly with the alcohol swab as well. After everything has been adequately cleaned, connect the catheter to the tube. You can do this by pinching the tube with your fingers or you can also use a clothespin. This will ensure that no urine leaks from the catheter.
Always be sure to position bedside drainage bags correctly, or you risk causing infection in your urinary tract. They should always be kept below your bladder’s level. The tube should be wrapped and left on the bed; it should not hang below drainage bag. The bedside drainage bag should be attached to the bed. You should not allow it to sit on the floor.
