The Usage of an Activator Instrument in General Chiropractic Methods

Every chiropractor practicing today knows that the field of chiropractics completely revolves around the use of an activator instrument.  This device has long stepped into the chiropractic arena when simple and primitive manual manipulation could not.  Of course, the hands are extremely important in treating back health, but there are some things that simply can’t be done with manual efforts alone.  It is in these scenarios that the usage of a good activator instrument, and implementation of the activator method, is ideal.  The activator method is much gentler and more targeted on the human body than the use of manual force alone.  It is because of this targeted and gentle nature that activator instruments are so vital to chiropractics these days.

An activator instrument is comprised of a compact, hand-held, spring loaded, metal device that is used by applying pressure to the spine.  Because of the springs within the device, the activator instrument delivers impulses to a given vertebrae in a spinal column.  These impulses are very low impact—they deliver just enough force to gently displace the vertebrae without moving the spine at all.  This allows the chiropractor to target and manipulate individual vertebrae quite easily and accurately, while delivering the least amount of impact humanly possible.  Therefore the patient feels no negative effects resulting from the spinal treatment.  This makes it easy for a chiropractor to treat even the most difficult cases of vertebrae based spinal problems.

There is an entire method of treatment based around the activator instrument.  This method of treatment is commonly referred to as the activator method.  It is comprised of a series of simple tests carried out by use of the activator instrument.  Usually a doctor will ask his or her patient to lie on his or her side or abdomen.  Often, what results of this positioning is that one leg appears shorter than the other.  The doctor then gently applies the impulses of the activator instrument along various muscles.  If the legs even out, this indicates that the problem lies in a vertebra.  The chiropractor will then apply the impulses generated by this spring loaded device up and down the spinal column.  This was he can find, isolate, and treat the vertebrae injury, and thus the general back and body health of a patient.

These days, the usage of an activator instrument in general chiropractic methods is widely accepted.  Many practices base their treatment off of this method, which is built around the activator instrument itself.
